Rapid Prototyping: Sketching | Google for Startups

Mariam Shaikh and Melissa Powel talk about sketching and paper prototyping. Have you ever struggled with how to get from an idea to a high fidelity prototype? Every design has to start somewhere and even at Google we often start with low fidelity prototyping options such as sketching and paper prototyping. After all, the fidelity of your prototype should match the fidelity of your idea, so stop worrying and start sketching.

  1. Well, Was going through many digital prototyping tools videos. and coming through this video was the best thing. Within an hour I created 15+ visualizations, user interactions using pen and paper. At any time I can quickly make altercation. Watched the following video too on digital prototyping and that gave more insights. Thanks Team. It's wonderfull to see how ppl at google are doing prototyping and learning tricks .

  2. It strikes me that there's nothing rapid about this approach. It's a full-time job… a "Rapid Paper Prototyping Pro".

They used a lot of pre-printed materials and their "common materials" are the kinds of supplies that have to be bought at an arts & crafts store.

They actually make a reference to the arts & crafts skills required to do prototyping in this manner.

They spend significant time drawing, cutting, assembling, folding, and gluing their resources in a way that's aesthetically pleasing. Then they create and edit videos and animations for presentation.

Doing things like this, a prototype would take a week to create and another week to review.
Give me a pencil and a piece of plain printer paper, and I'll be writing code in a couple of hours.

  3. Peg board for a background prop? really doesn't say quality or professional I have to say. Presentation timing was nice if not a little slow and patronizing.
Otherwise a new take on old tech. Thanks
I wonder, is there a better prototype tool, Like a virtual note pad, sketch pad for say a tablet?
